A British Electronica band founded in London. Described as 'electropop', mixing R&B with 90's house elements.
They are signed to the two labels Interscope and Polydor, both of whom are owned by Universal Music group.
So far, they have released 6 individual singles, the last of which, 'King', made it to number one in the UK chart. Their debut album 'Communion' also made it to number one after being released to the UK on 10th July 2015.
Years and Years are designed to have mass appeal, as their music style appeals to most, not for the 'elite' few.
- Mise- en- scene: rural setting, forest, low key lighting, use of fluorescent lights, constant shots of natural surroundings, summer vibe with use of neon paint and bold festival costume.
- Cinematography: close ups of bright props and also the surrounding nature, lead singer is constantly framed in the centre, most shots in slow motion adds mystical feel.
- Message of video/ generic types: girl in the video is seen to be vision of beauty, mesmerises the male lead vocalist. However, she is also shown to be the dominant character, with power over the opposite gender which breaks the typical gender roles.
