Rule of Thirds Example

The 'Rule of Thirds' is used consistently throughout Justin Bieber's 'Love Yourself'. The music video focuses on two dancers, so shape and symmetry are key elements, making the composition rule more noticeable here.

In the first shot, both actors are placed along the vertical lines of the 3x3 grid,
making them of equal importance.

Here, the walls of the hallway make up the lines of the grid. This leads the
audience's attention straight to the dancers.

The sofa and window follow the horizon line to create a balanced image.
While the dancers are the point of interest as they are framed off- centre along
one of the vertical lines.
