Indie Magazine Adverts

Here are a few magazine adverts which fall under the 'indie' category and comply with the typical conventions of the genre.

As indie artists tend not to focus on 'star image', none of the adverts above feature photographs of the band themselves. Instead, a related image of piece of artwork has been used as the main focus. In the case of Ben Howard, the album cover itself has been used as the background for the advert, I think this is particularly effective as the customer will know exactly what to look for when purchasing the album.
All three examples also comply with the 'simplistic' convention of indie art, the audience is not bombarded with multiple images and paragraphs of writing. Instead there is short, bold text which outlines the necessities e.g. album name, release date, where it is available. However, I like the fact that Bombay Bicycle Club have included lyrics, this detail is subtle but adds a little extra decoration to the advert.
