Audience

In today's lesson we learnt the purpose and importance of an audience, they are
the individuals or groups of people that view or consume a media text.  e.g radio listeners, tv watchers or magazine readers.

Without audiences, there would be no media as they are the sole purpose of a text. Media organisations only produce products to make profits and the audience are the only source of money. So the successful organisations are constantly altering their products to suit their audiences, for example sites such as google will alter their advertisements for each individual in order to promote the most suitable items and maximise profits.

Knowing your target audience is important as it helps you to narrow your content, creating something you know they will enjoy therefore saving time and money. Your audience will also act as advertisement, so getting it right will further promote your product as they will share with a larger audience of the same gender or age.

To find out the target demographic, you need to ask the relevant questions;
age? gender? ethnicity? class? hobbies? occupation?

Every question may not be appropriate but those are a few of the main categories found in professional documents, used to build a picture of the individual.
