Audience Feedback from Storyboard

After making the storyboard we wanted to know which audience the music video would most appeal to, and if any changes would need to made in order to suit them.
First of all, I created a survey using surveymonkey.com, it consisted of 10 questions;

  1. How old are you?
  2. What is your gender?
  3. What is your ethnicity?
  4. Any hobbies/ interests?
  5. Favourite music genre?
  6. Do you have a favourite movie video?
  7. How do you consume music videos?
  8. What makes a good music video?
  9. Is the narrative clear in our storyboard?
  10. Are there any elements you would change in the storyboard?
Initially we printed the surveys off in hand- out form rather than online. The manual method seemed more efficient as we could give them out in school rather than send links via email/ text (which probably would have been ignored by my friends). Once we collected the surveys in again, I had to enter them back on the site in order to analyse the results and make graphs from the data.

Our results are useful as it essentially separates the audience into different demographics i.e age, gender, ethnicity.  We can then see which demographic most often said 'indie' as their favourite music genre.

The data shows that the most popular age group for 'indie' music is 13- 18 year olds, in fact, no one over the age of 30 chose this genre as their favourite. So now we know that our music video is definitely aimed towards a younger audience.

It also shows that the genre is favoured by women in particular, with fewer men voting for this type of music. However, the numbers are very close so men still like this genre, but 'rock' is a close second. As a group we may be able to use these results to make a indie/ rock music video in order to appeal to both of the genders.

Some of the other questions gave qualitative results rather than quantitative, so cannot be analysed easily. Instead they are suggestions of improvement for our video. For example, when asked 'what makes a good music video', several people answered with 'a comedy aspect'. We could incorporate this some how, and have a few funny scenes in order to gain a wider audience. We also asked for their 'favourite music video', the answers included 'Sam Smith- Only One' and 'Passion Pit- Carried Away'. These may be useful for inspiration, so I'm going to Youtube some of the videos and note the best elements/ elements we can incorporate into ours.
